Puss in Boots     /p5

The clever cat then ran down the road ahead of the coach to men working in the fields. He called, "Good people! When the King passes this way, tell him that these fields belong to my master, the Marquis of Carabas, or you shall spend your lives in prison." This frightened the workmen, so when the King stopped and asked who owned all the good land, they answered "The Marquis of Carabas!"

Once more Puss ran ahead of the coach and once more he saw men in the fields. "Good People!" he cried, "When the King passes this way, tell him that these fields belong to my master, the Marquis of Carabas, or you shall spend your lives in prison!" Once more, along came the King's coach. "And who owns all these fields?" he asked. "My master, the Marquis of Carabas!" shouted back the men.

The King was amazed at the riches of the young man sitting beside him in the coach.
